Todas em geral precisam urgentemente de serem pavimentadas. \u00c9 buraco por todos os lados. Mas isso n\u00e3o impede de que voc\u00ea conhe\u00e7a toda a ilha.<br \/>Os nossos turistas quando compram nosso pacote de viagem, temos o cuidado de fornecer viaturas de todo-terreno. Ve\u00edculos 4&#215;4 para poderem ir a todos os pontos da ilha. Uma popula\u00e7\u00e3o permanente de cerca de 200 habitantes tem a sua sobreviv\u00eancia diretamente ligada \u00e0 atividade tur\u00edstica. \u00c9 acedida unicamente por barco, a partir de Porto Alegre, na ilha de S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9.<\/p><p><b>Centro do mundo<\/b><\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit; color: var(--ast-global-color-3);\">Monumento que assinala a posi\u00e7\u00e3o do equador no Ilh\u00e9u das Rolas.<\/span><\/p><p>O Oficial de Armada, navegador e historiador Gago Coutinho chefiou a miss\u00e3o geod\u00e9sica em S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 entre 1915 e 1918, per\u00edodo em que implantou marcos para o estabelecimento de uma rede geod\u00e9sica na ilha, ap\u00f3s o que fez observa\u00e7\u00f5es de triangula\u00e7\u00e3o, medi\u00e7\u00e3o de precis\u00e3o de duas bases e numerosas observa\u00e7\u00f5es astron\u00f4micas.<\/p><p>Durante suas medi\u00e7\u00f5es, comprovou a passagem da Linha do Equador pelo Ilh\u00e9u das Rolas. A Carta resultante dessas observa\u00e7\u00f5es foi entregue em 1919, em conjunto com o Relat\u00f3rio da Miss\u00e3o Geod\u00e9sica da Ilha de S\u00e3o Tom\u00e9 1915-1918, que foi considerado oficialmente o primeiro trabalho de geodesia completo referente a uma das col\u00f3nias portuguesas.<\/p><p>Existe, assim, o Padr\u00e3o do Equador, um pequeno monumento que assinala a passagem da linha equatorial pelo Ilh\u00e9u das Rolas. Foi erigido em 1936 e continha (antes de ser vandalizado) uma inscri\u00e7\u00e3o, guardada no interior do padr\u00e3o, onde se lia \u00abDos trabalhos geod\u00e9sicos e astron\u00f3micos realizados por Gago Coutinho de 1916 a 1918, em S. Tom\u00e9, por iniciativa do Eng. Rebelo de Andrade e com o apoio de todos os colonos, concluiu-se que o Equador geod\u00e9sico passa neste ponto\u00bb.
